HC nod for engg counselling ‘Counselling For Both Convenor, Mgmt Quota From Aug. 19’

Hyderabad: In a relief to students waiting for the commencement of engineering counselling in the state, the high court on Thursday directed the state government to begin the session by August 19 to fill the convenor quota seats in colleges.
    Stating that management quota seats should also be filled simultaneously and should be done on the basis of merit alone, Justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao said the process of issuing application forms and preparing merit lists should be transparent.
    The judge passed the interim orders on writ petitions filed by students who pointed out that the admission process had not yet begun, contending that the undue delay would completely derail the academic year. Calling for a response from the government, Justice Rao said that notifications should be issued in Telugu, English and Urdu that the counselling for A category seats shall begin at 10.30 am on August 19. The counselling should also be taken up online, he said. The judge said that managements of non-minority engineering colleges should issue notifications in at least two leading newspapers.
    Applications for B category seats should be invited both in physical and online formats. The physical format of the application form must be put up on notice boards of colleges and a copy forwarded to the university to which the college is affiliated and the AP State Council of Higher Education.
    Applications received by each college should be arranged in order of merit and the list exhibited on the notice boards to be scrutinised by the convenor (admissions), Eamcet-2013. The colleges shall make admissions against B category in descending order of merit among the applicants.
    The case is listed after four weeks.
