Hyderabad: The state government will conduct Eamcet for both medical and engineering admissions on May 10. However, the announcement of results for medical stream is subject to the final Supreme Court ruling. It may be recalled that the apex court, in an interim order recently, asked all states to conduct their own entrance tests for medical admissions overruling the Medical Council of India’s (MCI) decision to make National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) mandatory from the year 2013.
Eamcet for medical stream will be held on May 10 in the evening and for engineering stream in the morning, an official said.

The MCI planned to replace state-level entrance tests for medical admissions with NEET.
However, states including Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu had petitioned the Supreme Court in 2012 against the MCI decision stating their students were ill prepared for the test as the syllabus was based on textbooks pre
scribed for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
At a press meet here on Thursday, officials of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University announced the Eamcet schedule for both engineering and medical streams.
Officials said the Eamcet notification will be issued on February 2 and the last date for submitting applications online without late fee is March 27.
However, students can apply till May 7 by paying a fine of Rs 10,000. The ranks for the engineering stream will be announced on June 2, said M V Ramana Rao, convener, Eamcet-2013 and registrar of
JNTU. JNTU authorities have asked the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) to send the marks of all Intermediate students by May 30 to work out Eamcet ranks. The Inter marks are given 25% to Eamcet rankings.
“For us to declare the ranks on time we need the intermediate marks of candidates by May 30. Those candidates writing supplementary examinations will be considered for a second rank list at a later stage,” said Ramana Rao.
This Eamcet the authorities have introduced several measures to prevent impersonation and other malpractices.
    “We have asked the candi
dates to list the year of clearing SSC examination, so that we could cross-check with old records. Also, the candidate will have to mention mother’s name along with that of father in the application form,” said Rao.
The authorities have also tried to reduce inconvenience to candidates by giving a wider option of examination venues.
The students will be given an option of choosing between centres in four zones in the city (North, South, Central and West) so that they could get an examination centre located closer to their home.
This year, the students are expected to mark the OMR sheets using a blue or black ballpoint pen and not a pencil as was the practice till last year, the authorities said.
JNTU has set up regional centres to help students apply for the examination in several districts and four regional centres at Bhimavaram in West Godavari district, Janagam in Warangal district, Wanaparthy in Mahbubnagar district and Chittoor.
